Golf outings are one of the most popular ways for companies, nonprofits, and community organizations to bring people together. A well-run outing creates memories, builds relationships, and — for charity events — raises meaningful funds for important causes.

At Quail Ridge Golf Club, we have hosted hundreds of successful outings over the years. Here is everything you need to know to plan the perfect golf outing at our course.

Start Early

The most important piece of advice we can give: start planning early. Popular dates — especially Saturdays from May through September — book 6 to 12 months in advance. If you have a specific date in mind, contact our outing coordinator as soon as possible to check availability.

Choose Your Format

The most common format for golf outings is the scramble (also called best ball). In a scramble, each player hits a shot, the group selects the best shot, and everyone plays from that spot. This format is ideal for mixed-skill groups because it keeps the pace of play moving and ensures everyone contributes.

Other popular formats include:

  • **Stroke play** — each player counts every stroke
  • **Stableford** — points awarded based on score relative to par
  • **Best ball** — each player plays their own ball, lowest score on each hole counts
  • Shotgun vs. Tee-Time Start

For outings of 72 or more players, a shotgun start is typically the best option. All groups start simultaneously from different holes, which means everyone finishes at roughly the same time — perfect for post-round awards ceremonies and meals.

For smaller groups, a tee-time start (groups going off the first tee at regular intervals) may be more appropriate.

    Food & Beverage

Quail Ridge can handle all food and beverage needs for your outing, including:

  • On-course beverage service (beverage cart)
  • Hole-side food stations (hot dogs, brats, etc.)
  • Post-round meals (buffet or plated)
  • Cocktail hour options
  • Sponsorship Opportunities

Golf outings are a great platform for sponsors. Common sponsorship opportunities include:

  • **Hole sponsorships** — a sign at a specific hole with the sponsor's name/logo
  • **Longest drive** and **closest-to-pin** contests
  • **Mulligan packages** — sold to players, often with proceeds going to charity
  • **Cart bag tags** — branded tags on every cart
